PRATIMA SKINCARE

When I created PRATIMA, my aim was to offer the wisdom of Ayurveda, which I have studied throughout my life, to anyone looking for natural, lasting results. In the 1980s, when I launched my formulas, this was a fairly new concept. Today, I'm pleased to see that so many people are looking for alternative solutions that avoid ingredients such as harmful chemicals, synthetic products and artificial preservatives. I always tell my customers: whatever you put on your skin should be edible.

– Dr Pratima Raichur

In 1961, Pratima obtained her degrees in science, chemistry and botany from the University of Mumbai, India, and her diploma in Ayurveda from Behar, North India. She then acquired a wealth of experience in various hospitals in India.

Later, Pratima spent a year in the UK at Seamen's Hospital, where she worked in pathology and clinical chemistry, while pursuing in-depth research in the biochemistry department at the University of Hull.

In 1972, she returned to India. Pratima embarked on the ultimate path of holistic beauty and became a pioneer in Ayurvedic skincare. While working in one of India's leading cancer research hospitals, she used her extensive knowledge of botanical remedies to treat colleagues suffering from skin reactions. Word of her healing abilities spread, and soon others were asking for her help.

Pratima began practising at home with her own formulas in the first space dedicated to the treatment of skin ailments using Ayurveda, performing therapeutic facials and prescribing medicinal plants. Her business grew exponentially, thanks to word-of-mouth.

In 1977, Pratima moved to Manhattan with her husband and continued her home practice, laying the foundations for the PRATIMA brand we know today. After finalising her skincare formulas, Pratima laid the foundations for today's PRATIMA range, incorporating pure herbs, plants and flowers into each organic formula.

Pratima writes and publishes Absolute Beauty, the first and only modern resource on Ayurvedic beauty and the art of living, making holistic beauty methods accessible to everyone.

In 2006, the PRATIMA spa, New York's first ecological Ayurvedic spa and wellness centre, was opened.opens its doors in SoHo, offering a soothing, holistic haven in the heart of New York's bustling streets. An immediate success, the PRATIMA spa became the go-to destination for clients seeking natural therapies for balance and rejuvenation.

Today, Pratima continues to create its own collection of PRATIMA products, while working with clients as a leading Ayurvedic physician in New York.

"Ayurveda taught me the language of the skin, the secrets of balance and the gentle wisdom of purifying the soul. May it help me make your journey to absolute beauty an easy, joyful and successful adventure."
